Recovery Month

Text Box: Welcome and join us in our activities to engage and empower citizens who are in treatment or recovery from addiction. People in recovery, people seeking recovery, families, friends, advocates, and all with an interest in this critical public health issue are invited to take part.  Together we can raise awareness and give hope to those still suffering from this deadly disease.
Everyone knows someone who is struggling with a drug or alcohol problem.  For every person who suffers from a addiction to alcohol or drugs, 4 other peoples lives are consistently altered. In any given year, more than one half million North Carolinians need but do not receive treatment for an  addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.
The Recovery Month observance highlights the societal benefits of substance abuse treatment, lauds the contributions of treatment providers and promotes the message that recovery from substance abuse in all its forms is possible. The observance also encourages citizens to take action to help expand and improve the availability of effective substance abuse treatment for those in need.
Addiction is a disease, and just like any other chronic illness, it can be recovered from.  People experience recovery in different ways.  Some recover on their own: others recover through treatment and/or the assistance of self help, mutual-aid groups, or medication-assisted therapies.  Over the past five years, policy makers, community service workers, and researchers have focused on holistic and recovery oriented approaches that use as wide range of age-gender-culturally, faith and drug appropriate services to help people recover not just physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.
A well rounded recovery support network complement this process and is central for successful rehabilitation from substance use disorders. Remember-the support of friends, employers and other concerned community members can help make recovery lifelong.
Join us in our events throughout  September and October to support those in recovery!.
